Mary J. Griffin - President
Mary Griffin combines a strong policy background and a broad-based access to key decision-makers with a tenacious and tireless style to earn wide recognition as one of Sacramento's most effective lobbyists.

Ms Griffin began her career with the California State Senate, where she first learned the inner workings of the political process. Following her tenure in the legislature, Mary served for a number of years at the top levels of California state government. She left the Department of Health Services as Deputy Director of Legislation and External Affairs to accept a position as a legislative advocate for the California Medical Association.

Mary established the Griffin & Associates contract lobbying firm in 1992. Mary enjoys unique policy and fiscal expertise in the areas of the environment, healthcare, juvenile justice, finance, Medi-Cal and local government. Among the diverse clients she has represented are individuals, companies, medical groups, hospitals, corporations and associations.

Ms. Griffin also consults with various law firms to assist them in resolving their clients' issues with various state administrative agencies. Her understanding of government allows her to access the appropriate level of government and to assist the lawyers in developing a suitable resolution to the issues facing their clients.

Mary currently serves the following organizations:

Gary Cooper, Legislative Advocate.
Mr. Cooper has been an active and aggressive player in the state's legislative and regulatory arenas for eighteen years. From 1986 to 1989, Mr. Cooper served as the Assistant Executive Director of the California Optometric Association. His active role in the legislative skirmishes was key in developing the groundwork for California's current vision care delivery system.

Since becoming a registered lobbyist and business owner in 1989, Mr. Cooper has successfully shepherded numerous legislation through the legislative process, including healthcare, scope of practice, fire, health and safety, public safety, professional licensing and taxation. In addition to his efforts within the legislative process and the Governor's Office, Mr. Cooper has effectively represented his clients in the regulatory venues including the Departments of Health Services and Consumer Affairs, Board of Equalization and the Building Standards Commission.

Linda Muir, Legislative Advocate, D & L Muir, Inc.
Linda Muir is a registered lobbyist and an independent contractor for Griffin & Associates. She has been a contract lobbyist since 1980. For the last several years Linda has assisted the firm in advocating on major health care issues for our clients.

A long time resident of the San Francisco, Linda has been involved in statewide politics and has known and worked closely with all of the Bay Area legislators. Her primary and continuous client has been the Los Angeles Turf Club, which operates a thoroughbred race meeting at Santa Anita Park in Southern California. In addition, she has represented clients involved in parks and recreation, transportation and health care. She provides invaluable expertise with regard to Bay Area politics.

Jack McGurk, Environmental Consultant
Jack McGurk is President of Systems Improvement Initiators (Si2), a consulting firm specializing in assisting companies, hospitals and healthcare facilities to improve their operations, reduce employee injuries, implement cost-effective environmental improvements and increase workplace morale. Mr. McGurk was the Chief of the Environmental Management Branch of the California Department of Health Services for many years. Prior to retiring and forming Si2, Mr. McGurk played a key role in developing legislation that became the California Medical Waste Management Act.

Mr. McGurk's 38 years in the public health field at both the county and state levels provided him with a broad background in all aspect of environment health programs. He is a Past President of the California Environmental Health Association. Jack also serves as a member of the Environmental and Public Health Council of Underwriters Laboratory and is a member of the Editorial Board for Infection Control Today.

Vanessa Griffin, Legislative Assistant
Vanessa provides assistance to the principals of Griffin & Associates by tracking legislation, ordering specific legislation and assuring that it is appropriately coded for specific clients. She is also responsible for executing the required documents to comply with the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) and the Secretary of State. In addition, Vanessa handles all accounts payable and receivable for the organization.
